Blessed Are Mothers Who Are God Fearing!

Mothers-Day

Why do we celebrate Mother’s Day? It is much more than just having families get together for a feast and giving gifts to our mothers. Mother’s Day is an annual celebration and reminder that we should show appreciation by giving back not only on Mother’s Day, but we should perform this act of kindness and appreciation daily for our mothers since it is very much deserving. Mothers are extremely important since if it were not for them and God’s help, you would not be here.

Your mother experienced the loving pain of childbearing that brought you into this world. As we were all children once, God formed and knitted us in our mother’s womb as we read in Psalms 139:13-14, “For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.” For the most part, our mothers are the ones that taught us how to walk and talk.

Mothers are especially important in the family and play a critical role for a child’s healthy development. Mothers are very loving and encouraging that brighten your day. They are considered as both the physical and emotional backbone of the family. Mothers are the heart of the home. They are a blessing from God including their children as stated in Psalms 127:3, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.”

The very first mother in the bible was called Eve by her husband Adam since she was the mother of all offspring as stated in Genesis 3:20, “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” When Adam was alone in the garden of EdenGod knew that Adam needed a partner, helper, and companion that would be a perfect match for him and therefore God created Eve as we read in Genesis 2:20-23, “…But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So, the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man He made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, ‘This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’ ”

Since, Eve was created from one of Adam’s ribs, God created them (male and female) to be joined together as one flesh – Genesis 2:24Matthew 19:6Mark 10:7Ephesians 5:31. God also created all mothers to have a relationship with Him and to carry out His will. He respects mothers by commanding all their children to honor their mothers and their teaching – Proverbs 1:8-9. One of God’s ten commandments is for children to honor their father and mother so that they will have longevity as we read in Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.” God also commands all children to respect and honor their mothers along with keeping the sabbath day – Leviticus 19:3.

God wants all mothers to be God fearing while passing on His instructions to their children as the apostle Paul encourages Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:5-7, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Mothers are to be gracious and submissive to their husbands with a gentle and quiet spirit  – Proverbs 11:161 Peter 3:1-6. We are to give mothers praise who fear the Lord as stated in Proverbs 31:25-31, “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.”

A wise mother builds up her household, but a foolish mother pulls it down – Proverbs 14:1. Mothers are to have compassion on their children whether in the womb or as little ones – Isaiah 49:15. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was blessed among all mothers for giving birth to the one and only Messiah and true Savior. She expresses her praise and worship to God as a new song to Him while visiting Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. Mary explains that God’s mercy is upon those that fear Him – Luke 1:46-55.

God instructs all parents to raise up their offspring in a godly home, teaching them God’s commandments as stated in Deuteronomy 6:6-9, “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” The bible tells us that when parents teach their children God’s commandments at a young age that they will not depart from it when they are elders – Proverbs 22:6.

Parents of wise and righteous children will be blessed and will greatly rejoice in reaping the rewards of their offspring as we read in Proverbs 23:22-25, “Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice.” Parents should have great joy in knowing that their children walk in God’s truth through Jesus – 3 John 1:4. Foolish and wicked children that do not follow God’s commandments and teaching bring sorrow, grief, and bitterness to their father and mother – Proverbs 10:1Proverbs 17:25Proverbs 29:15.

Wives that have not been blessed with children or that are barren have the opportunity of adopting children as their own. God can bless barren women who are fervent in prayer to become mothers – Psalms 113:91 Samuel 1:10-28Isaiah 54:1-2Galatians 4:27. An excellent wife and mother are a blessing from God and are described in the bible as more precious than any jewels or luxury – Proverbs 18:22Proverbs 19:14Proverbs 31:10-12.

If your mother is no longer living, praise and honor God for the times you were able to spend with her on earth and rejoice that you will one day see her again (if her salvation was secure in Christ) – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18. Also, pray to God that He will make you and mold you into becoming a better mother for your children. Husbands be kind, loving, and encouraging to your wife. Rejoice in the youth of your wife and God’s commandments for He desires a godly offspring – Deuteronomy 24:5Ecclesiastes 9:9Proverbs 5:18Malachi 2:14-15.

As Christ loved and died for the Church, husbands should also have the same love for their better half – Ephesians 5:25-281 Peter 3:7. Children must obey your parents even when you think they are wrong and you are right – Exodus 20:12Deuteronomy 5:16Ephesians 6:1-4. If you are in a disagreement or not on speaking terms with your mother, you must forgive and reconcile the relationship with your mother. Jesus tells us that our prayers will be hindered (Mark 11:25-26) if we do not forgive others as instructed in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

As Jesus died for all our sins and forgave us of our wickedness, you too can forgive others especially your own mother – Ephesians 4:32. For you only have one mother who labored through childbearing that brought you into existence. Refrain from being quarrelsome with your mom. You must keep the peace as stated in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” If you remain angry overnight, then extreme bitterness will settle in and take root, giving the devil a foothold on you. The bible commands in Ephesians 4:26, “…do not let the sun go down on your anger.”

God also commands elderly women and grandmothers to teach what is good and to train the youth so that God will be praised as we read in Titus 2:3-5, “Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” The bible instructs us to honor all the elderly especially those that believe in His word. We are also instructed to care for and honor all the widows (Deuteronomy 24:19James 1:271 Timothy 5:16) as stated in 1 Timothy 5:3-4, “Honor widows who are truly widows. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God.”

Please have peace and rest this weekend in the apostle Paul’s teaching of God’s true love and unconditional mercy for us as His children in Christ Jesus as we read in Romans 8:38-39, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We wish all mothers a glorious and happy Mother’s Day weekend!
