What Are You Programming Your Mind With?

Program-Your-Mind-In-Christ-and-His-Word

What we read, watch, and listen to on a daily basis has a great influence and impact in our lives in many different ways that ultimately inspire us, guide us, motivate us, and direct us every day. So what are we programming our hearts and minds with each day? Are we being influenced with God’s word daily, listening to worship/praise music, and communicating to Him in prayer, or are we being programmed by worldly things that comes from the enemy? Are we being programmed everyday by evil forms of entertainment through televisionnews mediamusic, horoscopes, secular liberal / pagan books, etc.? What you watch on TV is known as a program, which is programming your mind, thoughts, and heart; similar to the programming from the lyrics in music that you listen to and like the various things you read.

So are you a child of the Most-High God through Jesus our Redeemer, or are you under the trance of Satan? We must NOT indulge in the lusts and desires of this world as revealed in 1 John 5:19, “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.” As born-again believers, our citizenship is no longer of this world but is in heaven as we read in Philippians 3:20, “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” We must NOT fellowship with this world since by doing so will corrupt us as an enemy to God as stated in James 4:4, “…Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

We are NOT to walk according to the flesh and according to the pagan lusts of this world, but we are to walk in the Spirit (Romans 8:5-11Romans 8:13-17), according to God’s Holy Spirit since this is His will for us as disclosed in Romans 12:2, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Our battle is in the Spirit and not in the flesh as we read in 2 Corinthians 10:3-6, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”

We need to be programming our minds with the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5-11) and with His word that will endure forever as illustrated in 1 Peter 1:22-25, “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because ‘All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the LORD endures forever.’ Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.” Jesus, as the word of God (John 1:1-5John 1:141 John 1:1-4), stated it this way in Luke 21:33, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”

Meditate on God’s word and His peace as detailed in Philippians 4:8-9, “…whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” God’s word is perfect and able to save your souls through salvation in Christ (James 1:21-22) for all those that carry out His will as we read in 2 Timothy 3:15-17, “and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path – Psalms 119:105.

God’s word is the Sword of the Spirit which is very much alive and powerful, piercing through to the heart, soul, spirit, and mind as revealed in Hebrews 4:12-13, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Jesus explained to Satan while being tempted by the enemy that we all must live by God’s word as stated in Matthew 4:4, “…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” We must keep, cherish, and live by His word daily since it gives us true life and healing to our body as illustrated in Proverbs 4:20-22, “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.”

If we love and fellowship with the world then we do NOT know NOR love God the Father and His Holy Spirit in Christ does NOT dwell in us as explained in 1 John 2:15-17, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” If we love the world and its desires, we are not counted worthy of Christ (Matthew 10:37-39) and His salvation, and therefore are NOT considered one of His sheep – John 10:25-30Jesus told us to get our priorities straight and our heart right with Him by seeking His invisible, eternal, and heavenly things by storing up treasures in heaven rather than on earth as revealed in Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Jesus also taught us that this world will love its own and will hate us (born-again believers) for His sake and the gospel as stated in John 15:18-25, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates Me hates My Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father. But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, They hated Me without a cause.’ ”

We must NOT commune and fellowship with the unbelievers since we will be corrupted into sinning as disclosed in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’ Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.’ ”

As His Holy Temple (1 Corinthians 3:16-171 Corinthians 6:19-20), we are called to help save the lost of the world by being the salt and light in the world as testimony examples of Jesus and His gospel as detailed in Matthew 5:13-16, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. ‘You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.’ ”
