Did the Great Flood (Noah’s Flood) that is discussed in the bible really happen? The Great Flood is shown in the bible in the book of Genesis, chapters 6 and 7. God’s holy word tells us that the Flood happened over 6,000 years ago and that God performed a creation restart on the earth since the entire world was filled with evil wickedness. After seeing all the evil on the earth, God was very sad that He had ever made man and all the creatures – Genesis 6:5-8. Therefore, God brought a destructive Flood on the world to destroy all wickedness and preserved only one family, Noah’s family (8 humans), who were righteous in God’s eyes. God also chose to preserve a set of animal species to repopulate the earth. God gave Noah specific instructions on how to build the large ark (wooden boat) with dimensions and total number of decks. God also instructed Noah on which animals to load on the ark, two of each kind (male and female) – Genesis 6:13-22. There were also watcher fallen angels in those days, that left their angelic domain and entered into our (human) realm and married wives for themselves and produced great and mighty offspring that were giants (known as Nephilim) and were very evil in the earth prior to the flood. The bible tells us in Genesis 7:11-12, “…on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights.” The waters prevailed so high that all the mountains disappeared and every living creature on the earth died as we read in Genesis 7:19-24, “And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered… And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind. Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died… They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days.” The bible proves that God’s wrath for destroying the earth with a flood really happened because He gave Noah a covenant with a sign in the sky (rainbow) that is still visible today to where God would never destroy the earth again with a flood as stated in Genesis 9:11-17, “ ‘I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.’ And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh…’ ” What more proof do you need than God’s word?
Additional proof that the Flood happened is from recent archeology studies found (over 2 decades ago) within the depths of the Black Sea. Underwater robot submarines were used for this discovery that found ancient “wattle and daub homes”, an ancient civilization that was nearly 7,000 years ago or before the flood – TheGuardian. Another discovery, more than a decade ago, archeologists found proof of Noah’s ark resting place on the peak of Mount Ararat in Turkey – NationalGeographic. Also, there were discoveries of petrified wood on Mt. Ararat resembling a portion of the ark. These discoveries match the biblical scripture as stated in Genesis 8:4, “Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat.” More discoveries continue to be found proving that the Flood happened (See Answers in Genesis). There is also a replica of the ark at the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, KY, that was built according to God’s specifications from His word. With these major discoveries, more false lies from the evil one will arise to try and disprove and continue to go against God’s word. We can clearly see that the Flood took place as discussed in the bible with undeniable truth and therefore proves that the remainder of the bible should be accepted as the whole truth. This means that the teachings of Evolution and the Big Bang that have dominated our schools and university textbooks are all false lies from the evil one (Satan). What about the false teachings of atheism and agnostics? Or what about the many different teachings on how to achieve eternal life in heaven? What more false teachings and lies will arise that reject the bible’s teachings? One reason why God’s wrath has not taken place on the ones spreading these lies against God’s word is because our supreme and almighty God is very slow to anger as we read in Nahum 1:2-3, “The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD is avenging and wrathful; the LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and the LORD will by no means clear the guilty…” We can see from God’s word that He punishes the sinful and wicked people and nations that do not repent and obey God’s commandments but reject God by worshipping other false gods. If you were tricked into believing these lies, there is still time for repentance.
Since all of us (humans) are a sinful nature, God gave us a merciful and glorious method to achieve eternal salvation with Him through His only Son Jesus. This was all part of God’s plan and was the only solution to save all the wicked and sinful human race. The bible tells us that we are all wicked sinners and no one is without sin, except Jesus. In Romans 3:9-23, it states “…both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written: ‘None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Because of our sinful nature we are all doomed by a most holy God to hell and eternal destruction. The bible tells us that we are all sinners, but offers hope, and we are foolish in deceiving ourselves if we think that we are without sin as stated in 1 John 1:8-10, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” For even Satan and his fallen angels (demons) believe in one God and His only Son Jesus and tremble at the name of Jesus. For if we believe that there is one God is good and we do well for even the demons believe and tremble – James 2:19. Jesus is the only way to heaven!, as we read in Romans 10:9-13: “..if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, ‘Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
