Similar to how music can have powerful influence over us in our daily lives, too what we watch on TV, whether movies or TV shows can have strong influence over our mind and wellbeing. If we have had a rough day at work or school, oftentimes watching a favorite movie or TV show can allow us to temporarily forget about our day’s stress and troubles by providing benefits such as, soothing, relaxing, inspirational, stimulating, motivational, spiritual, and many more. We have all heard the saying, “you are what you watch.” There is definitely some truth to this since most Americans 18 years an older spend an average of 4 or more hours each day watching TV or 35 hours per week. This is almost as many hours as required to hold down a full-time (~36 to 40 hours per week) job. Watching TV is “the most used electronic medium for US adults” (by Statista), compared to other electronic devices, such as smart phones, tablets, PCs, etc. This is great news if you are watching God-inspired or God-centered (Christian) shows and movies. If you are watching only Hollywood movies and TV shows, then your mind is being corrupted by secularism, paganism, and devil-ism.
Over 3 decades ago, Hollywood was much more censored on the filth that they tried to put into movies and TV shows. Today, the gloves are off and the PG-13 movies and TV shows of today would be considered as Rated-R films back then. The PG-13 movies and TV shows today have been loaded up with more filth on more profanity use, sexual/nudity, violence, blood & guts, etc. There appears to be NO more censorship today with Hollywood films, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. It has become so bad that many parents do not feel comfortable allowing their 13-year-old child to watch certain PG-13 movies and TV shows. There is simply too much negative influence on movies and TV shows today compared to just 3 decades ago. This is the reason why we must carefully choose the movies and TV shows that we watch as whole for the entire family including censoring what our children watch. We need to focus on watching those that influence us daily into a positive, kind, loving, and relaxing spiritual person. See more information on The Psychological Effects of Children Movies. Like music, or news outlets, negative and dark movies and TV shows can present us with the wrong message that can interrupt or distract us from our daily walk with God. Satan and his evil forces have control over most Hollywood movies and TV shows similar to his control and influence over the government, politicians, news, music, etc.
The bible tells us that Satan is very crafty in his deception as we read in 2 Corinthians 11:14, “…For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.” If we take part in the secularisms of today, then we are helping promote them. The bible tells us (Christians) to NOT take part in the works of the unbelievers but to expose them by revealing the truth as we read in Ephesians 5:11, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” We are also instructed that whatever we do, we need to do it all for the glory of God in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “…whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” If our daily walk with God through Jesus is lacking, then we are allowing the evil one an opportunity to devour us. The bible warns us in Ephesians 4:27,“…give no opportunity to the devil.” The devil seeks to steal, kill, and destroy us from our faithful walk with God. The bible commands us in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” We must continue in our faithful walk with God through Jesus and to put on the whole armor of God in order to discern the evil devices of Satan as we read in Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” This is the reason why Christians or Servants for Jesus Christ must focus on always watching God-inspired movies and TV shows. Watching God-centered movies and TV shows will provide several benefits during our daily walk, such as strengthen our faith, promote a praise & worship setting, draw us closer to God, help us resist evil, inspires our soul, improves our spiritual and mental health, and many others. The bible tells us to worship only God as Jesus was being tempted by Satan in the wilderness, when Satan offered Jesus all the world’s riches and fame. Jesus rejected Satan’s temptation as we read in Matthew 4:10, “Then Jesus said to him, ‘ “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
Therefore, we must choose daily of whom we will serve, God or the world? – Joshua 24:14-15. We must choose to serve God through Jesus daily by removing all the secularisms from our lives and daily walk with God! Listed below are several God-inspired and God-centered movie and TV show outlets that will be a blessing to you. There may be others not listed here, but this is a good starting point.
